The Day the Lights Went Out

At 8:05 on Friday, the electricity in the building went out. There was a loud cheer from the darkness of the gymnasium where all the students sat in line waiting for the opening bell to ring. It was pitch black. A minute later, the school generator kicked in and there were partial lights throughout the building. The paraprofessionals in the gym were sure that the students had taken advantage of the darkness to stuff their mouths full of Valentine candy from their backpacks. The candy stopped when the lights came on:) We, in room 15, took advantage of the opportunity to get our electric candles out and enjoy pretending that we were back in time for one brief hour before the electricity was restored for Eagleton (and for the neighborhood) . . . and a gentle sigh of disappointment filled the air.

The Holidays

To celebrate the holidays, Room 15 took a break from our normal routine to make gingerbread houses and some holiday decorations. Mrs. Stevens' husband, son, and daughter came to help. Enjoy our slide show!

Fieldtrips

Our fifth grade classrooms enjoyed two field trips this week. First we went to the Symphony and enjoyed having a close-up view of how an orchestra works.

Next, we spent the day at the Museum of Nature and Science. We all enjoyed Expedition Health and our ExerScience Class. The weather was beautiful!! Thank you to all the parent volunteers who went on the field trips with us. You were AWESOME:)

Nuestros estudiantes del quinto grado fueron a dos paseos esta semana. Primero, fuimos al Sinfónica. Nos sentamos muy cerca y podimos disfrutar de la música linda y ver como se toca en una orquesta.

Segundo, fuimos al museo y alli aprendimos mucho del cuerpo y de la importancia de hacer los ejercicios. Muchas gracias a todos los padres quienes nos acompañaron. Fueron estupendos!!!

Maths Mansion

Yesterday our students visited "Maths Mansion" where there is "no leaving without learning!" We rotated between 8 math centers doing angles, place value, story problems, estimating, etc. It was good spooky fun for everyone. And I think they all left learning something. Hopefully, they are all out enjoying the incredible snow today:)

Ayer tuvimos una tarde de "Maths Mansion." Hicimos juegos de matemáticas por la tarde juntos con la clase de Sra. Miller. Nos ayudaron varias voluntarios. Aprendimos mucho y repasamos mucho de lo que hemos aprendido. Ojala que hoy estan afuera disfrutando del dia de nieve:)

Today we made a model of the four layers of the earth out of clay. The students wrote and expository paragraph first by taking notes on a short video and then converting it into a perfect 10 sentence paragraph. Notice how each layer has been labeled by the students with toothpicks.
